A Sniff of Heaven with Mustela Musti Eau de Soin Parfumee Delicate Fragrance!

Musti, an adorable scent that I like to describe as 'angelic, pure and blissful'

Ah, the wonderful, irresistible scent of newborns and babies! We can't get enough of them, and sniffing our little ones all day is something we moms are truly guilty of! Having your baby wear scents or fragrances can be unnecessary, but it's okay if you want to freshen up your baby in between baths and water wipes.

When looking for baby fragrances for my Baby Ayu, the first quality that I look for is that it should be alcohol-free. I also avoid strong perfumes, especially those that are too musky, aromatic and heady. You should also look into the ingredients, as those with too much fragrance oils can potentially stay on baby skin for longer and might cause irritation.

Mustela's Musti Eau de Soin Parfumee, which literally translates to 'perfumed care water', is actually the first fragrance that Ayu wore. I've always bought our Mustela haul for Ayu in their Official Lazada Flagship Store. It is available in a fancy, rounded 50-ml glass bottle with a blue stopper, and costs a regular price of P810, but current prices in the official store range from P410 - P492 depending on the expiry date.

PROPERTIES AND INGREDIENTS

Mustela claims that this baby fragrance is formulated with 92% of ingredients of natural origin. It is also enhanced with honey and chamomile extracts, and they claim that this scent

'provides a real moment of well-being and brings tenderness and freshness'.

LIST OF INGREDIENTS (PER LABEL)

AQUA/WATER/EAU, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), GLYCERIN, SODIUM BENZOATE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, TARTARIC ACID, CHAMOMILLA RECUTITA (MATRICARIA) FLOWER EXTRACT, MEL EXTRACT/HONEY EXTRACT/EXTRAIT DE MIEL

The ingredients listed above are claimed as gentle and safe for baby skin. The label also indicates that this perfumed water does not contain alcohol and is dermatologist tested. Notably, chamomile is traditionally used as a calming or soothing ingredient. Honey, on the other hand, has softening and moisturizing properties.

HOW I USE IT FOR MY BABY:

Like Mustela Skin Freshener and Biolane Agua de Colonia, I spray this scent on Ayu's skin after each bath and no-rinse cleansing, spritzing it directly on Ayu's skin and massaging it afterwards, or spraying it on my palms and massage the product onto her skin. I also spray one or two spritz to perfume her hair and clothes. I like to freshen up her nape and armpits as well after no-rinse cleansing as these areas tend to sweat more.

Like all baby products, do a patch test prior to continued use to ensure that your baby has no allergic reactions.

SCENT PROFILE

Musti Eau de Soin Parfumee delicately blooms with a gentle, pure and uplifting cocktail of rose, lilac and citrus. It is an adorable, innocent scent that is super easy to fall in love with, and prefer over other baby fragrances. It truly cements a lasting moment of tenderness and pure love as you appreciate the nuances and notes of this subtle blend. The overall impression is soft, delicate and innocent, and to me, it has an angelic character, and not too bright and floral. My partner also loves this scent, preferring this fragrance over the ones that we have tried so far as of writing this article.

Expect, however, that the scent does not last long all day because it is rather carried by an aqueous solution.

THE VERDICT

My biggest admission with regard to this fragrance is that it is my current favorite for Baby Ayu! And this is, in fact, the first baby fragrance we tried for Ayu, and we are in love ever since. My verdict: it's First-Time Mama (FTM) Approved! It's gentle, hypoallergenic, and the scent is sure to be a family favorite. We didn't find any rash or skin irritation after the first application. It doesn't leave a sticky feel after application, even when sprayed in the hair. I also love that the scent can stick well in fabric. Whenever Ayu wears it, they comment that she smells so fresh and so 'baby'. It's one thing I'm also happy about this scent: it is, indeed, super bagay for babies, and a whiff of this scent will instantly let you know that it is intended for babies. On one occasion, I remember our pediatrician commenting that Ayu smells so good. "Ang bango, amoy ko sya kahit naka-mask. Baby na baby ang bango!"

However, I will not leave this post without tackling the downsides. Just like the Mustela Skin Freshener and Biolane Agua de Colonia, the scent of Musti, however adorable it may be, does not stay long. Ayu can only wear it for one to two hours, and afterwards, you can only detect this scent when you whiff closely. After two or more hours, the scent is gone. This is the most notable trade-off when you opt for non-alcohol-based fragrances. Also, the price can be a bit too much for a baby fragrance! If you are going to use this everyday, a 50-ml bottle might only last for a month (or two, if you are tipid).

If you are looking for a baby fragrance that is sure to capture your sentiment, is hypoallergenic and delicate for baby skin, Mustela's Musti Eau de Soin is truly a worthy recommendation!
