As part of my search for great baby shampoos that will work to tame my baby's cute wavy hair, I've come across an organic shampoo from Enfant. Enfant, which has been in business for more than two decades, is a specialty store offering baby apparel and accessories. They have established branches all over the country. You can buy directly in-store, in their website and online shopping apps. I bought all of my Enfant product haul from Lazada.
My Baby's Hair
Baby Ayu has silky, wavy hair that tends to get a lot of compliments from our relatives. Wow, ang kapal ng buhok nya! Probably my genes, but her Papa is also thick-haired with a bit of wave. Her hair tends to get disheveled with all the tumbling during the day, and sometimes, unruly strands on the back of her head will get tied up in knots. There was also a day when we had to cut a bit of those strands that got caught up in hard-to-disentangle knots. This is why I've been *looking far and wide* for a gentle, yet tress-taming shampoo that will work for Ayu. It would also be a plus if the shampoo can eliminate her mild case of baby dandruff that sometimes has her itching her head (yes, my baby knows how to 'kamot' her own head as early as 2 months old!).
The products we have used on her hair, so far, are the following:
Mustela Soothing Cleansing Gel for Hair and Body (For Extremely Sensitive Skin)
Mustela 2-in-1 Cleansing Gel for Hair and Body (For Normal Skin)
Mustela Gentle Shampoo
Enfant Organic Moisture Shampoo Review
Priced at P500, Enfant Organic Shampoo comes in a 300-ml pump bottle and packaged in a box.
Properties and Ingredients
Enfant claims that their 'natural formula cleanses and nourishes the scalp', and 'gently helps to soften hair without tangling'. The product is also labeled 'organic', 'dermatologically-tested' and 'pH Balance' (I suppose this is pH Balanced). The product is also labeled free from the following:
Parabens
Lanolin
Sulfates
Color & Dye
Formaldehyde
Phthalates
They also claimed that the cleaning ingredients in this product are made from 100% natural plants. Upon checking the ingredients list, I assumed these must be the mild surfactants that are commonly used in baby wash and shampoos, so there is nothing quite notable at all in their formulation.
Adding sweet almond oil and shea butter together (which, as they said in the label, is Ecocert Certified, giving the product its 'Organic' label) in their formulation, however, is what makes this baby shampoo unique from other baby shampoo formulations in the market. Sweet almond oil is an excellent emollient used in the cosmetics and skincare industry to moisturize the skin and aid in skin recovery for eczema and dermatitis. It's also rich in Vitamin E and Biotin, touted for its keratin-strengthening ability, and there are also claims that it has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Shea butter is also a moisturizing plant-based fat known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Overall, both ingredients should be expected to soften the hair and moisturize the scalp, owing to their emollient properties.
The shampoo liquid itself has a clear color, with a thick consistency that lathers very well. It rinses just a bit longer than usual than using 2-in-1 bath and body washes.
Scent Profile
The product's scent is probably the first good thing that you will notice about this product. Enfant's Organic Moisture Shampoo has a gentle, uplifting scent that smells like a sunny morning after the soft rain. The calming, subtle floral notes of lily-of-the-valley takes the highlight all throughout, from shampooing to wash and drying up, but I also detect some hints of jasmine or gardenia. The impression is a white, floral bouquet, clean and calming. Honestly, I really, really, adore the fragrance that they put in this shampoo.
My partner said that he also enjoys the scent of this product. My sis-in-law had a different view though; she said that it's a very fragrant scent but she thinks it is better suited for adults rather than babies.
The Verdict
After almost two weeks of usage, I could say that we enjoy using this baby shampoo on Ayu's wavy hair. It gave her hair a softer, silkier touch, though it did not necessarily tame her wavy hair which naturally curls in all directions (which is perfectly okay, by the way). Overall, her hair looked healthier and shinier, although from time to time we can still see some tangling in her hair ends at the back of her head, probably due to tumbling and lots of activity.
And yes, the best thing I love about this shampoo is its fragrance that actually stays all day! We give Ayu daily baths in the morning, around 9 - 10 AM, and I love that I could still smell the fragrance of this shampoo until the evening. We don't usually give her a full bath at night, as we just opt for no-rinse cleansing through no-rinse cleansers and baby wipes. It's a guarantee that the scent of this baby shampoo is long-lasting.
By the end of the first week, I also noticed that there are less baby dandruff flakes in her scalp. By the second week, the flakes are almost gone. She is less prone to itching her head as well, which I am super happy about! It's probably because of the significant reduction of her baby dandruff.
My Verdict: Enfant's Organic Moisture Shampoo is FTM-Approved! I love how this product remedied my baby's dandruff-prone scalp whilst making her hair look healthy and silky to the touch. It did not, however, relaxed her hair strands so there's no difference somewhat in hair manageability. I find that this is largely okay because adding ingredients that can relax or tame the hair might mean adding more synthetic ingredients that might not be gentle for the baby. The scent is adorable, gentle and uplifting, and I can sense that even Ayu seems to enjoy taking baths.
Because this baby shampoo really impressed me, I'm interested to try other products in Enfant's Organic Moisture line. Subscribe in my blog for more updates!
